A Brief History

The Redcliffe Hospital Foundation

The brainchild of Dr Boris Chern, The Redcliffe Hospital Foundation was officially launched in June 2005. At that time Redcliffe Hospital had been in existence for 40 years and had never had a Hospital Foundation.

Dr Chern explains the reason behind why he felt the need for the Foundation to be formed and the hard work that it took to get the Foundation off the ground.

“In 2002, one of my cancer patients that I looked after for years tried to give us her house and because we didn’t have the Foundation in place, she donated to another hospital. That is one of the reasons why we started the Foundation, so that people can support their own hospitals.

We wanted to raise money for our own Hospitals and community services and that’s what the Hospital Foundation is about.”

And so began the quest to form The Redcliffe Hospital Foundation. Don’t be fooled by the name, we cover Redcliffe, Caboolture and Kilcoy Hospitals and the associated community services.

In the year preceding the launch the committee had to find members of the local community who both supported the need for a foundation, but could also commit their time and energy to help it achieve its mission & vision.

Each member of the board had to be approved by the Queensland Minister for Health, the Queensland Premier and the Governor General before they could stand as a member of the board of directors.
