Computer Refurbishment
Work for the Dole - Bridgeworks & The Salvation Army
As part of our commitment to the wider community, and to help finance our day to day operation, the Foundation runs a computer refurbishment program in conjunction with Bridgeworks and The Salvation Army. We have been greatly supported by the Redcliffe-Caboolture Health Service District with the donation of old computers which allowed us to start this project. Since the creation of the Northside Health Services District, The Prince Charles Hospital has started donating their old computers which greatly increases the output of the refurbished computers. Since the schemes commencement over 18 months ago we have established computer partnerships with Redcliffe City Council, Brisbane Mobile Computers and Symbion Consumer, all of whom now donate their old computers to the project. We have also been supported by local business DJS, based at Clontarf, as well as Quest Community Newspapers. The assistance of these businesses has allowed us to provide recycled, high-quality computers to the community at a much reduced cost.
Over the period the project has been running it has provided training to over 90 participants, supplying them with fundamental skills in computer fault diagnosis and repair and enhancing their computer literacy skills. The project also offers the participants a means of returning to the workforce, many having gone on to find employment since attending.
