In a way this project was a catalyst in get the Foundation of the ground. When Dr Boris Chern thought of starting the Foundation to benefit the local region, the first project that he floated was that of an education centre to train young doctors and nurses. This encompasses that idea plus more.

The project is a partnership between the University of Qld School of Medicine the Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Redcliffe Hospital Foundation who successfully applied to the federal government for funding to build and operate a GP Super Clinic in Redcliffe. The new centre will also incorporate medical research and doctor training and accommodate a range of specialist and ancillary health providers. It is to be built at the front of the Hospital on Anzac Avenue next to the current Foundation office and is scheduled for completion in February 2011. The completed project is expected to cost more than $25 million.

The Moreton Bay Regional Council is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia. The Redcliffe hospital has become the major hospital in this region and the days of it servicing Redcliffe residents only have long gone. Present population of the region is approximately 357,000. In the next nine years, this is expected to increase to an estimated 442,000. The population age 65+ is estimated to increase from11.7% to around 25%. The need for good medical care will increase with our aging population. That’s why we at the Foundation promote a healthier region by supporting Research, Education, Community Partnerships and Resources.
