On the 15th July, 2007 Redcliffe Hospital Foundation Director Ron Jelich set out from Cairns to walk 1745 kilometres back to Redcliffe to raise funds for a Research and Education Centre to be built at the Redcliffe Hospital.
Ron was supported along the way by friends, colleagues, celebrities and other VIP's all keen to help him on his quest.
The route took Ron through every town along the Bruce Highway from Cairns to Redcliffe.
On September 9th Ron's mission was accomplished as he walked into Redcliffe and a hero's welcome. Ron had covered an incredible 1745 kms in just 56 days (average 32 kms per day) and raised $1million for the Research and Education Centre.
Ron's effort was best summed up by broadcaster, poet and Redcliffe Hospital Foundation Ambassador, Rupert McCall in his poem, Ballad of a Lunatic.
